This house own Test method is designed to help evaluate the indoor air quality of home, office or any other indoor area where we spend most of the time. It is vital to our health to breathe clean air and take action if it is polluted. Based on EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) studies, most of people’s health problems are caused by poor indoor air quality that is 2 to 5 times worse than outdoors.
TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. According to EPA studies indicated that while people are using products containing organic chemicals, they can expose themselves and others to very high pollutant levels, and elevated concentrations can persist in the air long after the activity is completed. They are aldehyde groups such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde and other ethylene, ammonia etc.
Formaldehyde (CH2O) – is a colorless, flammable gas at room temperature and has a strong odor. Exposure to formaldehyde may cause adverse health effects.
The following test tries to reduce TVOC and formaldehyde with textile fabrics. Air quality monitor by Ae Steward was used to carry out the test and to evaluate the results. The evaluation based on EPA studies. To evaluate the test, the blank test must be carried out for each article. TVOC and formaldehyde are specifically produced in a closed chamber using ethanol. The change in TVOC and formaldehyde concentration over time has been documented. The values of the test fabrics were compared with the blank on the table.
